Notebooking promotes active learning by integrating STEM and literacy, allowing students to record and evaluate observations of their surrounding environment. Notebooks provide a place for students to organize their thoughts, reflect on their learning and make sense of content being taught. ASSET STEM Education, a national STEM education improvement nonprofit, now offers its three notebooks —science primary, science elementary and math—as iPad apps! These apps allow educators to integrate digital technology into their lessons in a meaningful way. Not only can students use all the tools of the paper notebooks such as graphic organizers, sentence frames, measurements, conclusion formulas and more, but they now have audio and visual recording capabilities as well. ASSET’s notebooks are age appropriate and specifically designed with students in mind. Primary science notebooks are for students in pre-K through first grade, elementary science notebooks are for students in second through eighth grade and math notebooks are for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
